Dangote refinery pledges to exceed Nigeria’s daily fuel needs

Dangote Petroleum Refinery said on Friday it can supply far more fuel than Nigeria consumes daily, strengthening the country’s drive to reduce reliance on imports and stabilise its domestic energy market.

The company, which operates Africa’s largest refinery in Nigeria, said it is capable of producing up to 75 million litres of premium motor spirit (PMS), 25 million litres of diesel and 20 million litres of aviation fuel each day.

These volumes are well above Nigeria’s estimated daily demand of about 50 million litres of petrol, 14 million litres of diesel and four million litres of jet fuel, the refinery said.

Dangote said the excess capacity would provide a buffer to cushion the market against supply disruptions, seasonal demand spikes and logistics challenges.

In a public notice released on Friday, the company said this strategy would help stabilise fuel availability and improve pricing predictability for consumers and marketers.

The refinery added that boosting local supply is a key step toward cutting Nigeria’s dependence on imported petroleum products.

Dangote also pledged that all products supplied to the domestic market will meet international quality standards.

It said it is working closely with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority to ensure compliance with all market and regulatory requirements.

The company said its production plan aligns with Nigeria’s broader goal of achieving long-term energy security through domestic refining.

Dangote Refinery said it remains committed to supporting the country’s energy transition by ensuring reliable, locally produced fuel supplies.
