The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) has announced plans to establish a fund to support the purchase of a medical outreach van for the University of Ghana Medical Centre, aimed at improving healthcare delivery in rural communities.
The initiative, part of COMAC’s corporate social responsibility efforts, was disclosed by the chamber’s Chief Executive Officer and Industry Coordinator, Dr. Riverson Oppong, during the opening of the 2026 Safety Week in Accra.
According to him, the fund will be launched soon with an initial target of approximately $470,000, expressing confidence that it will significantly support UGMC’s outreach services, particularly in underserved areas.
Dr. Oppong also highlighted the importance of safety within the petroleum downstream sector, noting that it should not be treated as a routine requirement but as a core part of organisational culture and long term planning.
He explained that prioritising safety helps protect lives, preserve assets, safeguard the environment, and build public trust in the industry.
He added that the Safety Week event offers a platform for collaboration among industry players, regulators, emergency responders, and policymakers, all working together to strengthen safety standards and resilience within the sector.
