The Bui Power Authority (BPA) has set May 2026 as the target date to deliver the initial 35 megawatts of electricity from its 50MW peak solar photovoltaic project under construction at Galigu in Yendi in the Northern Region.
Members of the BPA Board visited the project site to inspect ongoing works and assess construction progress. The contractor briefed the team on key developments, including the mounting of solar panels, construction of a five kilometre access road and development of accommodation facilities for operational staff.
Board Chairman Kwadwo Nyamekye Marfo stressed the importance of keeping to the implementation schedule, noting that timely completion of Phase I will contribute to strengthening electricity supply to the national grid and advancing economic activity in northern Ghana. The project forms part of broader renewable energy expansion efforts aligned with the agenda of President John Dramani Mahama.
Ahead of the inspection, the Board, accompanied by Acting Chief Executive Officer Ekow Eduakwa Sam, paid a courtesy call on Yaa Naa Abukari II at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi. The Dagbon Overlord underscored the importance of collaboration between traditional authorities and state institutions in ensuring the success of strategic infrastructure projects.
He observed that northern Ghana has strong potential to serve as a national hub for solar energy generation due to its high solar irradiation and favourable geographical conditions.
The Board also visited the Galgu Naa, who encouraged the Authority to complete the project on schedule so communities in Yendi and its environs can benefit from improved electricity supply and increased renewable energy capacity.
