Uganda experienced a nationwide blackout on Sunday after a technical fault affected the country’s transmission grid.
According to reports, the disruption originated from the Lugogo substation, activating protective systems across the network and leading to a widespread power outage.
In a statement released on April 12, the Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) said technical teams had been mobilised to restore electricity supply promptly, while investigations into the cause of the fault remain ongoing.
The Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) noted that the outage occurred at approximately 8:53 AM and assured the public that efforts were underway to bring the grid back to normal operations as quickly as possible.
The Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) also advised households and industrial users to switch off electrical equipment during the outage to prevent damage and ensure safety when power is restored.
The company apologised for the inconvenience caused and expressed appreciation to the public for their patience during the restoration process.
The incident comes at a time when the Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) is undertaking ongoing maintenance works aimed at strengthening the reliability and stability of the national grid.
These activities, the company explained, include equipment servicing, system upgrades, and fault management, which are essential for improving long term efficiency, even though they may occasionally result in temporary power interruptions.
